Linda Todd – B.A. Hons
‘A whimsical painter with a curious nature!’
I don’t set out to produce art with definite ideas in mind. I sketch and scribble down in my sketchbook and on scraps of paper, then develop and play around with materials. Images and narratives start to form and develop into more detailed work. As I go along I gather influences from books, films, music, and often conversations and store up a bank of thoughts which I can delve into for inspiration.
Intuitively I am drawn to certain colours, patterns and images and themes which reoccur in my work. I studied Embroidered and Woven Textiles at Glasgow School of Art and there I explored traditional techniques in Embroidery and Weaving. My main area of play and focus is using stitchery on papers with print. This initial love of mixed media became an area I continue to work in.
My embroidery and textile art pieces combine paint, paper, print and canvas and the use of floral and animal imagery is a continued fascination.
I have taught Art & Design as a College Lecturer for 18 years and teach also Art & Craft Leisure Classes in the community. Recently another series of workshops has developed in collaboration with the Textile Artist Kathleen Good. We teach the ‘Creative Spirit Textile Workshops’ throughout Ayrshire sharing textile skills.
